Carole Demas Special Guest Star
in
Broadhurst Centennial Celebration at Feinstein’s/54 Below
Carole Demas is among stars who will salute the home of the original Cabaret, Fiorello!, and Fosse.
Broadway’s Broadhurst Theatre is approaching its 100th anniversary on September 27, and Feinstein’s/54 Below cabaret is planning to mark the milestone with “an evening of songs and stories, performed by the legends themselves who were lucky enough to grace the Broadhurst stage.”

Guests will include Wayne Cilento, Judy Kaye, Lewis J. Stadlen, Walter Bobbie, Anita Gillette, and others, including a special appearance by Carole Demas, who originated the role of Sandy Dumbrowski in Grease, which played at the Broadhurst June to November 1972 before moving to another Broadway house for most of its run.

The grand old theatre on West 44th Street in Manhattan has hosted the original productions of Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Fiorello!, its current tenant Anastasia, and dozens more shows, with the stars crossing its stage over the years including Katharine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart,
Chita Rivera, Ingrid Bergman, Tom Hanks, and Nathan Lane.
The evening will be co-hosted by Jennifer Ashley Tepper, author of The Untold Stories of Broadway series, and Robert W Schneider, co-host of the podcast Behind the Curtain: Broadway's Living Legends, who also serves as the event's director and producer.

Schneider said: "We are so honored that all aspects of the Broadhurst's rich storytelling history will be represented at this theatrical homecoming. It is my feeling that our theatres should be celebrated in the same we celebrate national landmarks; taking a moment to recognize the great moments that have happened in one location make us appreciate their worth even more."

Family Concerts - The Magic Garden
Come and Celebrate Carole and Paula's 60 Years of Friendship!
Live Family concerts with
The original Sherlock
Favorite On-Screen Clips
and
Musical Director Ian Herman

Carole Demas and Paula Janis have been pals since they met at the age of 14 in 1954, so they’re celebrating the 45th anniversary of The Magic Garden. The highly-acclaimed show won accolades and tons of fans during its 12 years on the air as the two combined their talents for performing and educating. They brought stories, songs, games, valuable lessons and even more valuable laughter to a wide audience and achieved ratings that equaled or surpassed those of Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Like those shows, the program’s quirky style made it entertaining for adults as well as children.

Since they started back up performing live shows, one of the most astonishing things about Carole and Paula’s live shows has been the number of adults who show up to reconnect with their memories of the psychedelic, off-beat rhythm of life lived in the garden, amidst the toadstools, the Magic Tree, and the immortal Chuckle Patch.
With three fabulous albums, a popular DVD, a Grammy nomination, and citations from Actions for Children’s Television and the Children’s Television Workshop, the legacy of The Magic Garden as one of the most valuable and endearing achievements in all of children’s entertainment is secure. Kids and adults alike will thrill to see the two and only Carole and Paula, along with special guest The Original Sherlock and musical director Ian Herman. Ages 2+

“A timeless cultural institution. …We hold onto The Magic Garden so ferociously not to wax nostalgic about the magic of childhood, but to keep the magic of childhood with us through adulthood.” Joanna Colangelo, The Huffington Post
“Emblematic of a seemingly simpler era.” Dave Itzkoff, The New York Times

Carole Demas and Paula Janis
